The Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recently awarded City of Austin Principal Planner Alan Holt with a Community Service Award.

Named for its first recipient, the “John V. Nyfeler, FAIA Community Service Award” is presented to individuals for extended commitment to community service and positive impacts on urban, environmental, or neighborhood issues.

Holt, who works in the Planning and Zoning Department’s Urban Design Division, has spent the last few years leading the South Central Waterfront Initiative working with community stakeholders on a plan to guide public and private development on 100 acres of prime property near Lady Bird Lake’s southern shore.

Comments from individuals who nominated Holt include:

  • "Alan's skills, compassion, and enthusiasm have been evident in all of his efforts and Austin is a better place because of his willingness to act as an urban design leader in our community."
  • "I have seen the deep impact of Alan on Austin's present and future.  His humor, humbleness, positive attitude, and tireless commitment to Austin are irreplaceable."
